Every business should have it
Peggy Claytor
I received a call from an owner of a lawncare business. He had originally called to get his truck covered under a business owner policy. He said he thought that was best since he has his logo on the vehicle. I smiled and said yes, that would be the proper way to have it insured. Once we had that situated, I asked "Now let's move on your General Liability needs." He said "Wait a minute." "All I want is the business auto." "Why do I need General Liability?" I simply replied "To keep you in business." I explained.
General Liability coverage offers protection if someone else's property is damaged because of something you may have did or do. Example: you are cutting grass, and a rock is thrown into their sliding glass patio door or goes through the window of their new vehicle. Wouldn't it be nice to let them know you have coverage for that? Not to mention, more and more, it is needed in order to secure the job. Customers want to see you are insured. Not only that, but you can also add coverage for your tools. Most people think their tools would be covered under the homeowner policy. No, not when they are used for business. NO, not if you have them in your vehicle going to a job and have an accident. There may be a little coverage there but more than likely, not enough to replace your equipment.
My advice to anyone with a business is to sit down with your agent to discuss ALL of your insurance needs to protect your business. Be open and honest about your business. The more your agent knows about it, the better it can be protected. After all, your business is your livelihood. It is worth the right coverage.
